MySuncoast On-the-Job Training (OJT) provides selected individuals occupational skills and training essential to the performance of a specific job. OJT is an “earn and learn” employment model where participants upgrade, retool and increase their skills. OJT addresses local employers’ workforce needs by enhancing the skills of the participants allowing the employers to have a qualified, skilled workforce with the competencies needed for the job. It provides reimbursements to those employers for the initial costs associated with skills upgrading and loss of production for the training of their new employees.
Two unique features of OJT are:
1. The participant begins training as a new employee
2. The participant receives training at the workplace, under appropriate supervision, acquiring occupational skills and knowledge in an “on-the-job” training environment
